Ingtegral Skirmishers
« on: April 15, 2020, 05:30:46 PM »
My thoughts on how these work as not specified filly yet

1. Let's allow them to be thrown out as part of any move or formation change.  Easier to do.
2. And withdrawn for free at any time.
3. I didn't find opposing integral screens worth wasting time on but a watching brief. We can of course have them shoot at each other with 1 die each for competeness.  But if found it easier to wait until one side or the other was prepared to close.
4. All outcomes are on the master unit - they are not independent.  So a short range hit makes the unit shaken etc.  There are no separate results on the integral skirmishers themselves.
5. A fun LI Bn in skirmish will of course tend to outshoot a Bn skirmish screen.  But you are trading doing less with suffering less by having it there.  So tp compare with screen at deadly range will be 1W vs. 2W.  take the screen away and it will be 2W vs 2G. Much prefer the former - which is why they had them.  But if the LI Batt is shaken it evens up.  Choices!  So in short, the Bn will do more damage but the screen will protect the main battalion from too much due to the dice drop.
6. Firing is always measured middle of front edge to nearest part of target. Funnty the things you forget to say !
7. A LI Bn entirely in skirmish that is advanced upon by formed troops falls back in front of it staying at 1BW (so at deadly range). A LI Screen has to fold back into its unit.
8. Skirmishers cannot be thrown out to a flank that is being threatened by enemy skirmishers. But as part of a move then the unit could potentially wheel to achieve something like it.  They simply cover the entire front of the unit whether in line or column.  You cannot shoot past them at the main unit front he front.
9. Rifles have longer range and most are expert shooters i.  Do better therefore it they keep the range higher.  Plus marksmen types have a chance of picking off a general with a unit.  IRRC a famous 95th sergeant killed General Camborne by resting his rifle on his feet while lying on his back..

What you think if reduce movement by 1 BW when deploying them as a cost at least for troops that use them . still free if deploy with a change formation action
I like your idea for the integral skirmishers presentation

Feels a good option to me. I will add as a refinement.
So yes move -1BW to deploy them.

I no longer base integral skirmishers separately. My French allied types have their light companies on the left base and the grenadiers on the right. I prefer to think of the skirmish components as offering more flexibility in broken terrain/BUA/fire fight at longer range. If i do need seperate figures I'll just monochrome and base odd spares to indicate that the skirmishers are deployed.

Specialist light battalions obviously have a mix of bases .

I am looking forward to the rules bring finalised  :)

Thank you.

What I aim for is the historical feel and to give the right look for what is going on.

So my own version I will tend towards 2 bases in line with 2 skirmish bases in front for integral skirmishers, and 4 bases 2x2 for an entire skirmish battalions in skirmish that falls back to 2 bases when formed up.

Si,
That's not a million miles away from how i have jagers based at the moment. Akin to flexible deployment in MeG.

On a separate note my daughter was blown away by the kind and positive reception to my FB post re the MeG mash up games we did on Saturday.

One of my main principles is to have the most welcoming community ever and to growth hobby by bringing youth into it.
Once we have af ew young players I plan to 'umpire' some games remotely and give tips.

But please do spread that message and news far and wide.  All helps.
